Links for Cantata rehearsal tracks

For each song in the cantata, I’ve created a track playing all the parts together, then individual tracks for each part. In those, all the parts are still present, but your part is amplified. I’ve only included just enough of the accompaniment to keep it all together.

Under the audio tracks I’ve included the lyrics. That way you can click play, then scroll down and follow along.

Here are the links for the songs in the order they appear in the cantata:

to Jesus the Son of God.

The wise men bowed low within a stall

and worshipped the King of all.

Forsake your pride and bend your knee

and worship Him eternally.

Let ev’ry knee bow and tongue confess;

Let His Holy name be blessed.

Humble your hearts and hear His voice.

Ye sons of men, rejoice!

The first Noel the angel did say

was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay.

In fields where they lay keeping their sheep

On a cold winter’s night that was so deep.

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel!

Born is the King of Israel.

Born is the King of Israel.

Sing Noel!

The Savior is born this night.

Men:                                                                                         Women:

His mother soft pressing her lips to His head;          Alleluia,

the King of kings nestled on a straw bed.                   Alleluia!

See Joseph beside them beholding the light            Silent night, Holy night.

which falls from the star                                                   The light from the star

Together:

on our Savior this night.

The wise men are bringing Him spices and gold.

While Mary is rocking the baby she holds.

A poor lowly stable; a mother so mild.

Rejoice with the angels and worship God’s child.

The Savior is born this night.

Shepherds, O Shepherds

Lyrics:

Shepherds, O shepherds. Hearken, O shepherds,

a baby is sleeping midst cattle and sheep.

Haste to the manger, there ye shall find Him,

the Savior most holy, the Christ child divine.

Shepherds, O shepherds, do not delay.

You’ll find Him asleep on the hay.

Shepherds, O shepherds. Hearken, O shepherds,

come gladden His heart as you turn to His keep.

Though now but a baby, His glory is mighty.

Come unto the Master, the Savior divine.

Shepherds, O shepherds, do not delay.

Press forward, a star leads the way.

Lyrics:

Women: In a manger lies a baby with His mother dear.

Men: Angels hover o’er them very near.

Women (men sing “ooh”): Sheep and oxen kneel, as little Jesus sleeps.

Mary hears the baby breathing, sees His perfect face.

All: Lo, the Son of God full of wonder and grace.

Women: Baby Jesus, King eternal, comes to bless the earth.

Men: Prophets have foretold His holy birth.

Women (men sing “ooh”): Mary holds Him close, He is cradled in her arms.

Tenderly she lifts her baby, kisses His sweet head.

All: See her lay Him down upon the manger bed.

Women: God is with us; Emmanuel is born.

Men: Jesus Christ has come to reign.

Women: Come and worship Jesus,

All: the sweet and holy child.

Behold the Lamb and praise His holy name. (Holy name.)

On a Donkey Brown and Gray

All parts:

1st Soprano:

2nd Soprano:

Alto:

Lyrics:

On a donkey brown and gray,

Mary rides on Christmas day.

Joseph stays by Mary’s side,

as it turns to Christmas night.

A star now leads them on,

On to little Bethlehem.

Angels sing, “Peace and good will on earth.”

Mary’s drawing close to birth.

The angels in heaven sing, “Alleluia,”

Shepherds stand watch on the hills.

All the rooms in the village are taken and filled.

There’s no room, no room for the King.

There’s no place, no place in poor Bethlehem.

No place, no room in the inn.

Humbly on the way they pray.

Hear the donkey’s joyful bray.

Joseph finds a stable poor.

Mary sits upon the floor.

The angels in heaven sing, “Alleluia!

Glory to God be on high.”

In an old, wooden manger, behold the sweet child.

The Savior is born Christmas night.

Our Savior is born Christmas night.
